Collected community reports of blocked roads and access issues after heavy rain. During the flooding, SWRF’s field operations director helped locate and rescue a dog swept into Cane Creek near Fletcher.
May 26 community reports
After sustained rain in western North Carolina, SWRF asked residents to share locations of washed-out or blocked roads, downed trees, flooding, isolated neighborhoods, and non-emergency supply needs. It requested road names, nearby cross streets, communities or counties, and whether reports were confirmed. The purpose was community situational awareness; emergencies were directed to local officials.
May 27 Cane Creek rescue
In a separate update, SWRF reported that its field operations director responded when a dog was swept into Cane Creek near Fletcher. Using aerial search, she located the dog on a small island. The dog was rescued and reunited with its family.
How the two efforts connect
Both events occurred during the same stretch of heavy rain. Community-submitted hazard reports required verification, while the dog reunion was an individually documented field response. This account does not publish private report details or present all map submissions as confirmed hazards.
